Skill Laboratories
Hands-on vocational learning that prepares students for real-world challenges — with creativity, craft, and confidence.
What is Kaushal Bodh?
CBSE's Kaushal Bodh (Skill Awareness) programme integrates vocational and life-skills education into the mainstream school curriculum. It bridges the gap between academic knowledge and practical, real-world application.
At Greenwood, we go beyond the minimum requirement — our Skill Laboratories are fully equipped, purpose-built spaces with trained instructors. Students spend dedicated periods in these labs each week as part of their timetable.
The programme is available across all Greenwood schools, making it one of the few school groups in the region to offer Kaushal Bodh at this scale.
Why Skill Labs Matter
- Develops problem-solving beyond textbooks
- Builds fine motor skills, patience and precision
- Vocational head-start before Class X
- Supported performance in board assessments
- Aligns with NEP 2020 skill integration goals
- Fosters entrepreneurial thinking from school
Textile Skill Lab
From thread to creation — the art of textile craft
Under the CBSE Kaushal Bodh programme, the Textile Skill Lab at Greenwood is a fully equipped vocational workshop where students explore the world of fabrics, fibres, and fashion. From understanding different types of cloth to stitching a finished garment, every step is hands-on.
Students learn hand embroidery, basic tailoring, and garment finishing techniques. The lab is designed to nurture creativity while teaching discipline, precision, and the patience required in skilled craft work. Older students explore garment design, colour theory, and surface decoration.
This lab is a direct pathway to future studies in fashion design, textile engineering, and entrepreneurship — giving students a real head-start well before Class X.
What Students Learn
- Hand embroidery & decorative stitching
- Fabric science and fibre identification
- Basic sewing — seams, hems, closures
- Garment design and layout
- Traditional Indian textile techniques
- Entrepreneurship & craft-to-market skills
Pottery Lab
Shaping ideas with hands — the craft of clay
The Pottery Lab at Greenwood is one of the most distinctive offerings in the Kaushal Bodh programme. Students work with raw clay to produce functional and decorative objects — from simple pots and tiles to sculpted figures and painted ceramics.
The process of moulding clay develops spatial thinking, fine motor control, and creative problem-solving. Students learn about the history and tradition of Indian pottery — from terracotta to glazed ceramics — alongside modern techniques of hand-building and wheel work where available.
Pottery also has a well-documented therapeutic benefit: students who work in the lab regularly report improved concentration and reduced stress, making it a unique mind-body activity in the school curriculum.
What Students Learn
- Clay hand-building techniques
- Coiling, pinching & slab construction
- Decorative painting & surface finishing
- Indian ceramic traditions & history
- Functional and decorative object making
- Creativity, patience & spatial reasoning
Public Speaking Lab
Every student deserves a confident voice
Communication is the most transferable skill a student can develop — and Greenwood's Public Speaking Lab is designed to make every student a confident, clear, and compelling communicator.
The lab is structured as a staged programme: students begin with voice warm-ups and informal conversations, progress to prepared speeches and extempore talks, and advance to debate, Model UN, and panel discussions. Each student is assessed on delivery, content structure, eye contact, and audience engagement.
The programme directly supports performance in board examinations (oral assessments), competitive examinations (group discussions), and life beyond school — interviews, presentations, leadership roles. Our students consistently place in interschool debate and elocution competitions.
What Students Learn
- Voice modulation & body language
- Extempore & prepared speech
- Formal debate — MUN & parliamentary style
- Group discussion techniques
- Storytelling & narrative structure
- Competitive elocution preparation
